INTERACTION DESIGN

MEDRAD Capstone Project

Description

In a multidisciplinary team, I designed and prototyped an Electronic Lab Notebook solution for MEDRAD - a leading firm in the research and development of healthcare products. This project was part of the 8 month Master of HCI Capstone Project and concluded with the presentation of a high fidelity interactive prototype to the client.

Approach

Our client was interested in an innovative solution for improving their documentation of intellectual property. Working closely with our target users and project sponsors, we followed a user-centered process to understand user needs. Using insights gathered from our research phase, we then developed a concept for our solution. Through an interative design process, involving the creation low and high fidelity prototypes and usability testing, we refined the user interface for concept. For detailed information about our research phase, please view the Process section in the online process book. Solution

Our proposed Electronic Lab Notebook solution, which we call the Incubator, is a flexible and efficient personal authoring tool in which inventors can capture ideas in a manner that is simple and intuitive. The solution consists of two components: a desktop application for quickly capturing ideas and related documents, and a web application for sharing ideas and building on the ideas of others.

For detailed information about the final design, please view the Final Design section in the online process book. We also produced a video sketch to illustrate how we envision the Incubator in use at MEDRAD.
